It's a damn good film, so I wanna give out a good rip for you guys to enjoy. Figure I'll put it out there for you guys right before I leave on vacation (next saturday). Now, I'm not certain as to how exactly I'm gonna release it.

First of all, what audio track should I use?
- Dolby Stereo 2.0
- Optional Surround 5.1
- DTS - Decoder Required

If I use the 5.1 or DTS then I prolly need to make it more than 1 cd right? The playing time is aprox 1:38.

Is there any need for it multi channel? I don't have any surround system myself, so I just watched it with the stereo track. There's not very much action or effects, so there wont be any added viewing experience in that manner, but still the overall ambient is always nice with surround.

And there's also a dir. com. Should I add that as a secondary audio stream, or should I release it as a sepparate .mp3?

And the extras.
- 25 min featurette
- 30 min interviews and shit. Now this one might need a little editing, as it's cut into many parts, and alot of the segments comes many times. But I think the last part of it is the one that has everything in all the other parts.

As I've only used AutoGK to rip, I'm not sure how I'd go about with those extras. but I'm sure doom9 will show the way...?

I'd say that 5.1 isn't really needed fi this is the case. If there's a decent enough mix choose 128 or 160 VBR, whichever you think is necessary.

I'd aim for 1cd, but it may be inevitable to make it a 2cd release, and in that case, I'd go for the 5.1. Director's Commentries are nice, but I'd leave them for people who really like the film (and hence buy the disc), unless the track is really exceptional :) If you can afford the space, do it as a 92kb/s mp3 vbr and see if it will fit on the disc, otherwise, aim the avi at 700mb and leave the audio commentry for peeps with DVDr and a decent player as a seperate file.

This is why the compressability test is so important in gknot. Helps pin down exactly what you need.

Extras are a breeze with Gknot, just mux the track that corresponds to the extra, and then encode as you would a film.

yeah, I figured that about the dic com as well. but still, it would be kept alive on ed2k if it was a sepparate audio track within the rip, as those xtra mp3 file tracks drys up DAMN fast.

So what it looks like I'm gonna do is a 2cd 5.1 Surround with dir com as secondary stream then.

You said 92kbs on the dir com, but is that high rate needed? I mean, I have audiobooks at 32kbs that are fine listening to. After all, it's not meant to be the main experience of the film...?

Guess I should start to wander of into regular GK instead of just staying on the safe shore of AutoGK. I did a little tinkering with GK at the beginning of my ripping carear, and tried to follow the guide at doom9, but found it rather silly. Some extra prog that the guide said you should use, wasn't included in the GK rip pack (even though the guide said it should be). Alot of things weren't explained well enough, and some things were explained too much.

I wouldn't bother, I'd try a one cd and forget the commentry ;)

As for the gknot guides, perfect, everything mentioned is provided in the pack. Dunno what whacked out freaky guide you've been following though
