Even if a file is released untagged, there's no excuse for adding your own IMHO. If you found a Picasso in your loft without a signature, you wouldn't autograph it yourself would you?

The work remains that of the original ripper, and shouldn't be tagged by anyone else.

Yeah I agree, just hypothesising that on the very lowest spectrum of this whole debate -

An untagged file is better ammended than a tagged one!

Wrongs still wrong

Don't wanna go that off topic but if Mr Universal/Sony/Columbia Tri-Star peeked in on this thread what would they think?

Jesus Christ these people are freaks. We front money to create a film and they ILLEGALLY rip it and distribute it on a P2P network, when it clearly is NOTHING to do with them, nore do they own any rights to distribute this production.
Yet they will preach to people "How dare you re-tag that file  IT BELONGS TO ME!!!"

:P :P :P

Coz if I did find an original picasso in my loft I wouldn't scan it and pass off copies as the original either

I couldn't agree more with that, and I'm aware of the double standard involved ;)

I think people underestimate the importance of the tags though, how are people meant to monitor their rips if people remove their tags?? It's OK for 1 or 2, but for any more searching by hash is just not an option.

Bugger - did a reply but DNS server timed out and it got lost!!!

Any how agree completely and that earlier post was just that i had a sudden thought about the double standard thing and it made me chuckle

Could this be a off shoot of SR going down that more and more people are tagging files in the hope of that it will lead to files being more easily verified?

What ever it is, it most certainly is getting more and more frequent.

/I pity the soul who retags an STR release, that is for sure :P
/If you think what Jay & Silent Bob did to get justice against web nerds was bad we'll go even further

all it takes is for someone to rename the file (to burn to cd for example) and when a re-share is asked for to share the file with the new, NON-TAGGED filename.

imho while ur dlding a file, yeah u leave the ripper on it, but once youve downlaoded the file and u have to burn it, its your to rename as you want, after all if no1s gonna be seeing it while on cd then theyre not having credit taken away, i know when i burn movies i always rename them but make a note of the ripper so that if i have to reshare it then i jsut readd the rippers name, other then that if its gonna stay in my collection and out of my shares then ill rename it to fit my cataloguing system, if i download say (example) ed2k: Pervirella[1997]_Alex.Chandon_DIVX5{PROPER}=STR=.avi  [699.53 Mb] [Stats] then while its downloading, and when its complete and still in my shares i will leave it as that, when it comes to burn ill rename it to what suits me but make a note say in a text file of the filename "Pervirella[1997]_Alex.Chandon_DIVX5{PROPER}=STR=.avi" so if anyone asks me to reshare it i can simply put it on my pc, add the ripper back in and then reshare, the ppl still get the file, the ripper still gets the glory, everyones happy.

and for anyone who complains "blah blah its jsut like what sc, sr, rw do" then no it isnt, they place advert tags in files and remove the ripper, i readd the ripper and dont place any tag regarding myself on there so its not the same, if you still think it is you can go have sex with a splintered plank of wood while rotting in hell being sodomised by saddam hussein

I agree with that, when you burn you can call it whatever you like, the problem comes when it's re-shared without the original tags, then it's quite possible for the tags to be lost forever as far as that particular file goes :)

actually now that I think about it I have renamed some STR releases when burning :-o

I changed it from the funny squiggles and weird brackets to proper group tags
ie.
Name.Year.TAG.Xvid-DVDrip.STR.avi

I don't share them as that but they are renamed in my DVDr. I do sometimes pruposely share tagged files, but only when the releaser was good enough to not mention things like its cut or dubbed. A big eng.DUBBED or CUT sorts that out :)

awww :(

But the funny squiggles and weird brackets is what makes our releases so great, you have bastardized our releases, destroy the dvdr's and redownload the pure STR love NOW :P

As long as people are sensible with file names then that sort of stuff that Spud/Max do is fine, I reckon!

Right what about this one :

Just checked the spread of Pervirella, and notice that it has 2 new names on the network, and thought here we go

But they've just been slightly renamed no tags added/removed :?

Original :
ed2k: Pervirella[1997]_Alex.Chandon_DIVX5{PROPER}=STR=.avi  [699.53 Mb] [Stats]
Ammended:
ed2k: Pervirella[1997].Alex.Chandon.Divx5{Proper}Str.avi  [699.53 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: Pervirella.(1997).-.DIVX5.PROPER-=STR=.avi  [699.53 Mb] [Stats]

I'm not saying this is wrong or owt but how come so quick after release peeps are ammending the file name - and why would they?

emule/donkeyhybrid/edonkey/mldonkey/shareza/overnet?

Its probably all those weird characters in the filename, it does stand out like a sore thumb because they look different if you organise your collection for whatever reason... I guess it also makes them looks like a "proper" release groups have done it too. No1 will rename em if you stick to proper group tags I wouldn't have thought, well except retagging sites. I don't think its done purposely, just that STR tags seem to change with each release... these are some I got in my emule now:

ed2k: Silent.Night.Deadly.Night2.[1987].XviD=STR=.avi  [697.11 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: Pervirella[1997].Alex.Chandon.Divx5{Proper}Str.avi  [699.53 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: aswang.directors.cut.[1994].dvdrip.xvid.=str=.avi  [698.54 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: ebola.syndrome.internal.[1996].xvid=str=.avi  [700.59 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: Flesh.Freaks.[2000].XviD=STR=.avi  [698.95 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: House.on.sorority.row(1983)xvid=STR=.avi  [696.83 Mb] [Stats]

Perhaps sticking to:
Title.Year.Internal/proper/etc.Xvid-DVDrip.STR.avi
as TDX guidelines state would stop the alterations for you?

ps. what's with the = anyways? If you don't mind me asking, i take it it's supposed to be there?
