I've installed an NEC 2500 DVD burner on my pc last friday.
I just took my cd burner out and connected the dvd burner instead.
Everything works fine and i can burn dvd and such. But the only negative thing about it is that when i burn like 6 DIVX flicks on a dvd i takes me up to 45 mins to finish burnin. (which is the only thing i've burned sofar)

Now even i know this can be done a lot faster, IMHO is should only take up to 20 mins max to burn a dvd.
So why does it take me so long to burn.
I have two harddisk installed on one IDE cable (one 40 gig and one 80 gig) and on the Other Ide cable i have the dvd burner, dvd buner is set as MASTER

Should i change the setup??? the Ide cable is 40 pins if im right
Im not very good in this sort of prob solving so every help is welcome

cheers

What media are you using?
Sounds to me like you're using 2x disks

Perhaps you should check your drive speed with some diagnostic tool.

try using another burning package, and also see what speed Nero says in the status window whe it burns.

What Nero says during burning is not the actual speed, it just displays the setting. However, if it detects the disk as 8x, this means that both the disc and the drive are capable of this speed. Try experimenting with hdd settings, leave the burner as the only drive on this IDE or disconnect the other (non-system) hdd. If this doesn't help, you can always try using it on some other machine. Or you can just save some time and do this at once.

If it still is too slow, I guess you'll have to contact your vendor...

I don't know if this will help at all but Nero is shite on my NEC1300a, try another program and see if that helps at all.

The dvd burner is the only device connected to the IDE cable
On the other cable i have two harddisks connected i'm a little confused now :-)

I think that doesn't matter with CD and DVD drives.

Just in case, make sure its set to DMA and not PIO. If its got set to PIO, go into device manager, remove your IDE channels and then reboot. Should set it to DMA again.

Glad it looks like it could be sorted

Can I hijack this thread for a minute - Please...........

I have the opportunity to "upgrade" my NEC1300A to the 2500.

And I know theres rumours that with a firmware update it may be made a dual layer burner?

How true is this?
Wouldn't that mean it has to have the dual lazer already in the drive?

Is there any concrete proof that this is possible?

Coz if not I'll stick with my trusting 1300A and upgrade to an official dual layer when the time comes :D

I'd do it like a shot :)

The firmware has been proven to work.

Cool. then I'm on for a swapsy.

Gonna swap my NEC1300A for a 2500

Again, my local shop claimed that these firmware rumours were hoaxes and that no firmware update could make a single layer drive a dualer, need a totally different lazer.
Just shows, again, that people in the business don't know what they are talking about

So is the firmware out now then?

I know the discs aren't really incirculation or viable yet but just wondering.

Hopefully get the drive this weekend then!

Although there is no DL to test, the drive is reported as 2510 and working fine :)
