Hi guys..

Having a bit of a problem. Wonder if any of you have any ideas as to what can be wrong/had similar experiences..

I recently bought a S-Video cabel and a audio cable that I thought would allow me to watch movies from my laptop on my TV.

Here's how things progressed:
1. Plugged them in
2. Started up the laptop
3. Went into my screen preferences, switched to tv mode, panicked a little - but found out i was in wrong channel on tv, ahhh! perfect it works! :) I can see my computer on my TV! Cool Shit!
4. Copy the DVDrip from cd over to harddisk.
5. Doubleclick the BSPlayer-icon-movie-file. BSPlayer starts.....
and here's the banger:
6. BSPlayer shows up as a black screen on my tv but get this... it's playing fine on the laptop :? wtf?! i mean christ, the signals on the TV are sharp and beautiful on everything, even BSPlayer itself, but the movie is NOT showing at all...

So like i said.... wtf?! How is this possible?`I tried with other Rips and other players (crystal player, divx player, classic media player etc etc. I tried fucking around with configurations etc, but no dice! )

I sincerely hope somebody has some advice for me.. I did notice that the S-video cabel the guy sold me only had 4 (or was it 5?)pins, while the one behind my laptop had 8 (/or was it 9?); but I called the store to complain and they said that it really didn't matter at all how many pins it had as long as it fit. (now i thought that sounded kinda nonsensical, but i don't think they're just bullshitting me.. are they?)

Hmm, did you try a player other than BSplayer? BSplayer has been problematic with me from time to time.

It's usually an overlay setting...

Like on my laptop with ATI:
right click desktop, click properties, then go to settings--> advanced--> overlay--> theatre mode (check it)

Not sure about Nvidia...

Right click your desktop - properties - settings - advanced. Make sure your monitor is set to be the secondary device and your TV is set to primary mode (in your displays tab settings). This works on my 9800 Pro. nVidia has a similar setup option.

Alternatively, you can goto the mule and get TV Tool which makes things a bit easier, especially on nVidia hardware. BTW who makes your graphics chip - Intel, nVidia, ATi, SIS? This will help us troubleshoot better - although the above advice should work.

oh... does anybody know if there's a tvtool for the ati-chipset similar to the nvidea? 'cause like many others i'm getting these sucky (yes sucky) lines at the top and bottom of my screen that won't go away.

another thing: i have the option of raising the resolution on my lap to 1600*1400 (or something like that) but the downside is that it won't show the entire screen at the same time, you have to scroll around the screen. but this is ok, because it's supposed to be like that..
but what ticks me off is that this happens even when i have the tv as my first choice of screen as well. shouldn't it be posssible to view higher resolutions on the TV? or won't this make a difference to the flickery image i get on normal desktop view? (or make the video qulaity worse? because that is excellent as it is 8) )

hope i make sense guys.. i'm new at this pc to tv thing.. but you noticed that already

ati doesn't need one. TV drivers are very, very good in comparison to nvidias crapfest. You need to go into your TV settings (via 2nd button desktop>properties>Settings>advanced>displays>tv and then adjust the size.

Yeah, it was all pretty simple. But i tried to adjust the size; when i pressed the buttons the screen just flashed but did in fact nothing :-/ But it's no biggie :-)

its a hardwire max res, if it enters follow the mouse mode, output is bigger than either the hardware can take (in the case of monitors) or the card can output as in the case of tv-out.

1024x768 is the biggest I've seen on any card.
