OK.

I usually use audio grabber or the like to rip my CD's to MP3 for personal use.

But a friend of mine has recently got a swanky new MP3 player and wants to rip albums like DIDO/Nora Jones to MP3, but she says that she can't becuase of the copy protection on the dics that when she inserts them into PC you can't view the disc or anything instead you get a player load from the disc that plays the songs and that way blocks the contents of the CD from her PC!

I've asked her to bring in one of the CD's so I can have a try, but do any of you guys know or have come accross this?

She has purchased these CD's and just wants to be able to listen to them on MP3 player
Thanks :beerchug:

I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE MADE IT CLEAR IT WAS NOT ME!!!

Yet another thing I can realy on you doing PC_Arcade......being a cheeky so and so :P

Also looking over those threads I think they ain't going to be able to rip these discs themselves so gonna have to do it for her

Does look complex with all these different protections, I avoid mainstream music so never have probs ripping CD's!

I copied a exclent instruction thread from musicdonkey.org into a thread at hhah for using EAC... it is suposed to be the best quality MP3 ripper around....

CD Ripping @ HHAH

Also there is a way cool app that SPUD put me onto APE
APE Comparison chart + Download Site

If you are archiving your own cds for backup use APE or FLAC as it is completly lossless, but for just expanding your hard drive archive for those neverending random playlists while every one is in the lunge room drinking and chatting use mp3.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but I need to know how to overcome the various copy protections on the more mainstream Audio Discs.
But that is an excellent post on how to rip Jynks :beerchug:

hi,

try holding the shift button when you insert the cd.
this bypasses the autorun feature.

...if it's one of these type of cds ...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/23 ... rus/?index

..& you have already inserted it once, you will proberly need to remove the virus

good luck ;)

Ekhm... I suppose next you'll be posting requests for advice on ripping some rare movie called "Clown Job: Cumming to Get You", or something like that... Obviously, not for you...
