I was fiddeling around with a winxp cd, when I noticed it had an option like this. But what does it do exactly? Does it transfer all the configuration settings and all that shit, or only the 'my documents' and that stuff or what?

oh, btw if you have any other hints when re-installing please post them.
I'd like to get rid of that 20 sec lag when I boot for example, but have no idea how. Should I install with the network cable plugged in, or take it out?

configuaration settings, it writes them to a floppy and then reads them back.

Totally pointless imo since winxp is wizard driven anyway

ah ok. And even more pointless since I wanted a clean install, free of all the addons and tinkering I've done to the register and shit...

but what about the network cable? Have it plugged in or out when I install?

Go for it... leave it in.

Even with all the crap inside and out on my comp... no problems when reinstalling with everything connected. Was a different story in the past, but not with XP. Most of the drivers work fine and I update what needs updating after installing the OS. Zero problems.

I prefer to setup windows with a legit key, add all the security patches and hacks, then defrag.

Then Make and Image file of your install.

Whenever you want to reformat the main drive, just format and copy the image over.=)
