eh, I've reinstalled windows but it's full of flaws in the installation. This 'flawed' version was 'pre-cracked' on the cd and didn't need anything else to run, but as I said it's full of other errors, so I'm thinking maybe it's not the way to go....? Downloaded a few new versions to try out. Any recomendations? I've only used Home Edition before.
1. Is there any reason to try Pro?
2. How about 'Media Center Edition'???
3. And there's a Media Center 2004 Edition?!?!?
4. What the heck is ed2k: Windows.XP.Prof.Edition.2004.-.Bill.Gates.Edition.rar..rar [743.14 Mb] [ Stats] ????
5. MSDN Volume License Version????
6. The ones that have SP1 spliced into the installation? Make any difference than installing it afterwards?
7. Is it recomended to 'download updated installation files' ??
One I got now has this '4in1' thingy with many versions on the disc. It has both 'WinXp Pro SP1 (Corp)' AND 'WinXp Pro Retail' so I'm guessing there must be a reason to why people want to only the retail without the SP1, or else they wouldn't have included it? right?
8. Oh, and activation crack: I've always just used the Reset 5.01 thingy. any reason to why I should not, or something I should use instead?

1. no, use corporate
2. media center edition is crap
3. I hope not
4. Probably a shit custom build where someone has bunged in loads of useless crap like Zonealarm and Norton antivirus
5. Never needed MSDN, internet = better help
6. You don't need to change your cd key, you don't have to download any update before windows SP1 came out. Not much point not using a SP1 update to be honest
7. I never do, I always update after install
8. Never, ever... not once needed an activation crack. Most the time I don't know what people are gibbering about. Every version of XP i've used never needed a crack of any kind, just enter a key, then skip registration.

1. Corp Rulez
2. Spud is using a nice term there, it's baaaaaad
8. Thank You Spud - What are those people gibbering about. I've never needed a crack or anything either, as long as you have a valid key you're sorted. I'm so sick of people saying "oh you can't download updates/patches unless you crack it or blah blah blah "

Tnx guys. You're underestimating my stupidity a little though. Corp Edition? What's that? Is that the 'WinXp Pro SP1 (Corp)' on my 4in1 disc? If so aint that the same as pro?
So Home Edition is no good either?
What do you mean you don't need any activation crack though? That must mean you've got precracked versions then...

no, corporate doesn't and has never needed a crack of any kind, legit or not. I really don't understand why people use all the shitty stripped down versions in the first place.

ok. but other than that, is it the same as pro?
and is it the 'WinXp Pro SP1 (Corp)' that I have? When I highlight it it says 'MSDN Volume License Version'

corp is the edition given to major businesses. They get one copy, install then image it onto other machines.
It isn't crippled in anyway like pro and home (home is totally pointless imo). I don't have a clue what you have on cd without having a look (although I'd imagine a couple of TB of scat fest action ).
I got my copy i'm using from BT, was just corp SP1

Ok. So how do I find out if I have it then? It has to be written in a txt file or something..?
I'm still rather curious about this one:
Haven't been able to find ANY info about it...

Like spud says - will be a custom build bundled with SP1 and Plus! and some others, a guy on Sharereactor did something very similar where he put Nero, Norton Virus/Firewall and stuff all on, so after you installed windows you was already to go

Yeah. you were right. It's a version that has tons of apz...
But how do I find out if I have Corporate Edition or not then? It has to be written in a txt file or something..?
and this guy http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtop ... highlight= says that I should use 'Dynamic' disks with 'Volumes' instead of 'Partitions'. How do I do that? Partition Magic?

win2000 corporate edition is my recommendation.
Not the lastest I know, but well tried and tested.
All updates work & will be ok in the future.
No ed2k link for you sorry.
Unless there is some special reason for you using XP, have you thought of this?
You can totally customise it if you want eye candy.
Whatever , just my 2 cents.

that game is excellent and one of my favourites of that kind. At one point Wes Craven was infact making it into a movie.. unless i was misinformed but the project fell apart.
edit: there was even talk on imdb about it too, although that's not where i heard the news:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251576/

Yeah I liked that game too. =) They should make a sequel!
Hey one thing about windows and extreme movie manager though:
I always used to hold in ctrl and push the arrows (left or right) to skip to the next word. It used to skip to any symbol that wasn't a letter, now it only skips to open spaces.
To explain I used to be able to skip to the next word if the filename of a movie used periods instead of spaces (The.New.Movie.That.I.Downloaded.avi) It works here, but not in emm. any ideas?

I would have made a great film. damn.
re:sequel! , "American Mcgee's OZ", if it also ever gets of the ground?
ok, now we are a bit of topic, hehe, did you ever get your OS installed?
I am using dual boot w2k & linux. if you want to play with *nix check out http://www.knoppix.org , morphix, gnoppix, etc no install needed - runs from cd
