A few of my avis (not all) there is a slight stutter (just noticeable enough to bother me.) The stutter occurs in all players i've tried (playa, wmp6.4, wmp9, bsplayer, zoom, etc) One file in particular (maplewood) is an xvid. I have installed the latest codec. It doesn't happen with all xvids, just an occassional file.
-thanx

Could you be more specific? What exactly does it look like?

It's just slightly choppy playback on certain files.Maybe its a codec prob after all since no one else has complained on the str release of Maplewoods, and it works fine on pc_arcade's mach.
Hey PC_arcade, any idea what a/v codecs are in use when you play the file?

Perhaps your machine is just too slow? Or you have some resource-consuming app running in the background?

I don't think that it's too slow. I've dl'd close to 700 movies and less than 5 have had this problem.
Also, I've done it with nothing else running.
:(
I've been scouring the net for a week and just can't pinpoint what's causing this

Ok, then perhaps you should try running GSpot with the specific movies that are causing trouble and find out what they have in common.

I had this problem with Last House On Dead End Street and Cronos. Then I used VLC Player, and everything worked just dandy.

Is it an ffdshow related problem? i've noticed VLC tends to bypass ffdshow which is why it tends to play a lot more off the bat.

Navigate to the ffdshow options, and uncheck playback of the type that's giving you problems. Then update the codec (ie xvid --> keopi's latest build) and see if it plays better.

If ffdshow, just install the latest xvid, "official", and disable xvid within ffdshow.

Works fine that way for me, even on a p450....

Rregarding ffdshow, I don't have it installed (unless its within a codec pack i installed). I have manually unregistered ffdshow using regsrv32 and wmp64 shows its playing using xvid codec (latest one installed)
If the ffdshow filter is installed, how do I navigate to its settings? (man i sound like a newbie!)
I just checked and it shows a ffdshow config option within the Defiler pack. When i click on it, nothing happens!
Thanks all for the advice so far. Won't have a chance to do anything till late 2nite.
THanks again!
