I've had some files on my hard drive for awhile that are oversized and i was wondering if there's ways to fit some of them on 1 cd. I am able to overburn with Nero and get some that are around 720mb to fit on 1 disc(700mb cdr) but the ones bigger than that i can't get to work. So i was wondering what some of you guys do with them. I'd prefer not having to split them and burn them on 2 discs. These are the ones i'm having trouble with and their filesizes...

Men Behind the Sun - 732mb
Junior(not the Schwarzenegger flick) - 797mb
The Degredation of Emanuelle - 777mb
C.H.U.D. 2 - 791mb
Happy Hell Night - 741mb
Twinkle Twinkle Killer Kane - 856mb(I'm pretty sure i'll have to split this one)
Cannibal Terror - 746mb

I've only got a 40gb hard drive so i'm starting to get built up with oversized rips that are taking up valuable new horror space

You will have to buy 800mb cds, and overburn onto them. Practically you can only ever get a max of 730mb if that by overburning normal 80min cds.

Luckily I have a DVDr burner so its not really an issue :D

You could use 800mb cds, but single layer dvd burners have gotten so cheap now that it's not even worth it to keep spending $$$ on cds.

I use Nero 5.*whatever* for normal cd copying. However to burn files larger than 700 MB I sometimes use Roxio EasyCD 6 as it does the span disc thing. I.e. I copy a load of 700+ MB discs into one backup set. Works great too and you don't need the original program to restore them as each backup set on each CD contains a ittle .exe file. When it runs it just asks for whatever disc is needed to restore the file(s). :)

well a dual-layer burner isn't that expensive either...I have one and have no problems burning and i'm using Nero 6 "somthing". I never burn movies on cd's i always use dvd's.

Maybe the dual-layer burners are affordable, but the prices for the media are still ridiculous -> no chance.

Don't do that. If you need to burn 800MB use 800MB blank CDs. Getting rid of error recovery isn't wise if you want to read that CD after a while.

Here's some info on GIGAREC (up to 900MB on a 700MB disc) on supporting Plextor drives:

Test:
-Drives
Plextor: 712A (burn/read)
Liteon DVD ROM: JLMS XJ-JD166S (read)
Samsung CDRW/DVD: SN-324B (read) (aka: piece of shit notebook drive)

-Media
Imation aka: CMC Magnetics (700MB, 79:59,71) 48X

-Data
98:39,11/866MB of mixed media

Results:
-good
fit 866MB on a 700MB disc
copied all files on disc without errors from compatible drives

-bad
had to burn @ 8X
had to read @ ~8X :wacky:
Samsung drive would not read (not surprising, has hard enough time writing a fooking disc... will probably torture it severely with knives, lighter fluid/matches, and hammer if the occasion presents itself)
probably a big compatibility issue with a lot of older and sub par drives

Conclusion:
quick test, so by no means thorough
won't be using GIGAREC very often, if ever
hell! ain't it handy
