Anyone installed it yet?

I'm still a little hesitant.

Well the bad news with this new Windows Sp is...
Quote:
If you have experienced any problems with DOS-based games, online games or peer-to-peer software this is because SP2 limits connections per port to 10 (in order to slow the spread of viruses and worms such as Sasser), so programs such as eMule, that open connections to a lot of different destinations will be slowed down too.

from site http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/security/sp2.html

I want it but i don't!

Really? And it's not possible to turn that off, along with the XP firewall?

I've been running SP2 since the day it was available in finished form, and that quote above is utter rubbish, Emule is running as well as always with ~250 connections (limited by my router) on port 4670, this is probably because I don't use M$'s crappy firewall though ;)

I'd recommend installing it, I've had NO problems at all and it means you have all the latest patches and fixes :)

read this (from the eMule site):
http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/news.cgi?l=1&cat_id=10

I think I installed it last night :(
Just before I was going to bed, I noticed one of those Windows Update (Autoupdate) icons in my systray, which, after clicking, prompted to install SP2.
I let it, and after that the tooltip for the icon said "downloading 0%" or something like that. Although now in the morning I don't have any new windows or anything open that would greet me with a completed download/installation message...

But I always thought you don't need to "install" a Service Pack if you have all the critical updates installed anyway from Windows Update (which I do)

that's weird, Emule has well over 200 connection with SP2 installed (same as it always has). I haven't noticed ANY difference in emule with SP2 installed :?

there's a fix though : http://www.lvllord.de/

I read somewhere that emule will still report connections as normal, and that you have you have to check logs somewhere to see the actual number of connections.
No idea where unfortunately, but it was a forum (maybe emule), as some guy was also claiming high connections until he checked these logs.

I'll try and find it again this morning.

Thanks Dia, I'm confused though, if emule is really only using 10 connections I wouldn't expect it to max my download and uploads constantly :?

XP SP2 TCP Connection fix. Don't know if it's the same as the one you posted PC_A.

I stick with Win2K

Sorry PCA, my bad.

It only limits the new connection attempts, not total connections. So you can only have 10 active attempts in whatever the given time is. Max connections is not affected at all.
Apparently the patches can up this to 50, so that's much more acceptable :D

I though that was the case, does anyone know what the given time is though in order to change the max conenctions per second field in emule?

Uppi-datie :

Emule , running "behind" (don't make me laugh  ) xp's firewall , WITHOUT patch runs decent so far....Seems half of China jumped on that pyramis "Immortel" SF flick...

Had a IE crash just now over some java applet crap... (why is that shit still so popular ?) ...
Fair to say it never ran smoothly on sp1 either....

PCA, I've read a few comments on other boards saying it's 10 per second, nothing official, so I've no idea how accurate that is, sorry.

Maybe it's because I was way overdue with a complete re-install but I must note everything runs a tad faster now too (about 20% I'd estimate)....

Excuse me for bumping this one more time...

But to testify:
clicked Maven one-cd-reencode of AvP 3 pm....

Finished 11.23 pm same damn day.....

So if sp2 slows things down.....it sure doesn't do so significantly.....
Even behind it's own crappy firewall :wacky:
