sure but you'd be advised to use it until your fav firewall comes with a new version.....
I'm sure there are holes in this transitional state...

??? So the old apps aren't compatible, or what? Any reason as to why you can't just keep using the firewall you were using before installing SP2?

I've still not installed it, apart from the reports on p2p and dixv I've also heard it makes Athlon 64's reboot at random

AFAIK, in sp2, when apps allocate memory, they have to specify that it's for code and should be executable. If marked as data only, the cpu will halt and cause an exception if any attempt is made to execute code there. This to avoid buffer underrun attacks where code is placed in data-areas and then executed.

Normally, this is no problem, but some apps use clever optimations where they generate code on the fly. Apparently, the divx codec does this to optimize code for different cpu's.

I'll keep reading this topic

I'm in Holland and the Dutch version of SP2 isn't available yet (I think)

Last thing I've read was that it'll be availlable somewhere
in september.

But there are so many different stories about the effect of
SP2 on all sort of programmes :?

I'll keep on reading them 'till it's my turn :wacky:

By the way : if I keep on updating my Windows through the
infamous new V5-update site things will be patched perfectly
as well too,don't they ???

Greetz,

K538

Is there any real change in the update engine at that site? I thought only the layout was new...?

No.it's infamous because there are certain people in this
world who have illegal copies of their OS

And some of them (if not the most,I know me too) couldn't
install the new update-software because of their not quite
legal serials

But with a new serial....go right ahead !

That's why :P

That's why you use corporate editions :P
Keygens always fight a tide.....

BTW I am impressed with the new inbuilt pop up blocker....but it's only a matter of time before people find out how to get around it I guess....
And another laugh is that sp2 uninstalls anything in/below your IE taskbar that doesn't belong there....
Had some instant webpage printing junk installed.......that I was planning to get rid of anyway..........it's g  ne!

hmm I downloaded SP2 from micro$hit.com and it worked fine. Didn't even need to change my CDkey or owt.

There's now a wireless network wizard, but unfortunately, I still can't get the fucking thing to work still (I had it working at one time, but since formating and having to hard reset my pda, it flat out refuses to let me on the network).

The firewall is great for all those losers that don't no anything about pcs and tend to screw it up for the rest of us. They need to purchase a virus scanner too and intergrate that.

All my software still works, hell I even installed Yoda Stories, dumped the wav.dll update in and it works on windows XP so I don't think there's any problems on compatability front.

I've applied the connection increase patch to 50, emule seems to be going fine though, reports connections 195 atm (The SP2 connections is just half-open right? not connected ones?)

Apart from the connections patch, is there anything else I should be sorting out with xp and sp2?

I also installed it.

Like the built-in pop-up blocker. =)

One tiny thing that bothers me is that I no longer get pictures to show on html commercial mails, that I want to see. Like I get a 'weekly lowprice offers' from a few hardware dealers, which is usually kind of nice, but not the pictures don't show anymore.

Also applied the patch, and it seams to be working niceley. Tried out morph mod, but that gave me real shitty rates, so went back to lsd, which works super as always.

I read about that feature, but it doesn't seem to work on my copy. Was it just for Outlook Express? (I use outlook 2000 )

Can't say I've noticed any problems with emule, and I've not even run the patch yet. If anything it seems to have improved as I'm getting less failed connection attempts now.
