one worked, one failed... I think the one that worked was a fluke

It appears as if you can use 12x as an option for the media using official firmware though, just fails near the end. I was using nero, is record stomp clobber bollocks or whatever its called any better for burning?

I use nero, but I have used record now romper Stomper when I had the NEC as it was far more reliable.

ANV media is rubbish. Would recommend avoiding this brand. There are some dead disks in the spindle to show the quality of the media.

Burning at 8x is fine, not had any problems, but it appears @ 12x so you have to remember to set it to 8x when burning.

But any brand that has dud discs on a spindle aren't worth bothering is.

Just tried burning at 4x with 4x media and getting terrible buffer underruns (DVDDecrypter).

Installed as the slave drive on the same IDE as my 107.

Any ideas?

you should have it as master, the faster drive = master, slower drive = slave.

I have mine setup as secondry Master, and then an encode drive as slave and never have any buffer problems, even when using the encode drive. Its set to DMA channel 16 or something odd.

It sounds like you don't have DMA on properally though. Check to see its not snuck into PIO mode. if it is, and it refuses to change, uninstall your ide channels in device manager and it should sort itself out.

I did a bit of reading the black ones aren't the same model as the 108, its a 108XLa or something odd.

well with mine i took the chance and rejigged my drives right round. I was trying out some IDE bay racks for some hard drives and the cooling was better in the HDD rack with a fan. Moved them down, put one below my floppy disc, the other two in the bottom IDE bays w/ heat reduction and converters on, and then my burner in the top. Everything is chilling now :) Except the pioneer after a burn session, that gets quite hot

What media is everyone using btw? I find Datawrite is consistantly better than everything (unless your rich and get verbs). Ritek G04 and G05 are very decent media types :)

i made a screw up and set an RC region by accident, so my drive is set to region one... forgot to install DVDidle pro. Just checked and couldn't find any region hack on rpc1 for the 108 yet :(

I guess i should use another hardware region check and put it to region 2. Will speed up my ripping since most discs are R2 I have :)

I've got 4 x 5.25" bays in my case, so its installed with an empty bay between the drives. I've just bought some spiral wrap to tidy up cable city in there so I can change everything round when I do that.

I've always used Datawrite and could count on one hand the number of times I ever had a coaster. Great Media :D

well at 8x they are fine, just if you get duds in a spindle you know the media quality is very poor. nero tests aren't too bad for reading/writing, but you may as well go the extra pennies on quality :)
