Great movie indeed. Highly recommended.
I don't think it can be classified at all, it's just so unlike any other movie...

Replacing 1cd rip. Tnx. Wish there were some comentaries though. If not by Kubrick, then I would like to hear what McDowell had to say about it. I read somewhere that he only took this role (along with Caligula) because he was a drunk in dire need of $$$.

Really? Do you have a link where I can read more about that? I just heard it was because Kubrick fealt the British weren't "ready" for it yet.

na thats total wank, kubrick wanted to be a brit Actually, not jokingly he really did, he said it all the time from what I understood, moved here, gave us the proper edits of lots of his films (ie. the shining) and numerous times stated the contrary, that it was the american audience he didn't think were 'ready' (something echoed unfortunately by the studios, ie. Terry Gilliam's Brazil, etc.). I think thats cos he often got a lot of stick in the states from conservative critics.
The real reason was someone sent his family death threats (spurred on by newspaper articles that the film was sparking copycat murders). It was released after his death because, well, who could kill him then?

Quote: | Kubrick's Clockwork Death Threats
A Clockwork Orange, Stanley Kubrick's controversial 1971 film, has been unavailable in Britain for decades. It's long been known that a number of violent copycat attacks in the U.K. resulted in a still-standing ban on the ultraviolent film.
However, British film site Popcorn now reports that Kubrick's decision to pull the film from circulation was prompted by more than his conscience.
The American expatriate's widow, Christiane Kubrick, says the filmmaker was the target of death threats, which ceased once the film was withdrawn. Christiane was interviewed for an upcoming documentary on Kubrick for British television's Channel 4.
This revelation may also help explain why the director was such a fiercely private and reclusive figure.
A Clockwork Orange, based on the futuristic novel by Anthony Burgess, followed a violent gang of "droogs" led by Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell). Alex's raping and murdering result in his arrest and his own victimization by a reform-minded government.
After the film's release, the rape of a young woman, the beating of a juvenile delinquent, and the savage beating of a tramp were said to have been horrific copycats of such attacks in the film, prompting a public outcry.
The British film board did not officially ban A Clockwork Orange, however. Kubrick took it upon himself to have all prints of the film pulled, and Warner Bros. complied with the director's wishes. Although the film has been widely available in America, the British censorship holds to this day.
The Channel 4 interview with Kubrick's widow is part of The Last Movie: Stanley Kubrick and Eyes Wide Shut to be broadcast in the U.K. on Sept. 5. No airdate has been announced for the United States.
The documentary, directed by Paul Joyce, features unprecedented access to the reclusive Kubrick's family, home, friends, and private archive. Granting interviews are Eyes Wide Shut stars Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, and Sydney Pollack, and former WB head Terry Semel, who speaks for the first time about his 25-year relationship with the director.
The writers who collaborated with Kubrick on his last, incomplete project, A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), also weigh in, as does Steven Spielberg, who has been rumored to take over the A.I. project.

Obviously an old article (since its quite old news), once he snuffed it Warner did the nasty almost immediately

AFR swapped into the first post, the 2cd swapped out:
Quote: | willy_br wrote: | IMDbStanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess's famous novel is a masterpiece. Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums who spend their nights stealing cars, fighting rival gangs, breaking into people's homes, and raping women. While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary. We watch Alex transform from a free-roaming miscreant into a convict used in a government experiment that attempts to reform criminals through an unorthodox new medical treatment. The catch, of course, is that this therapy may be nothing better than a quick cure-all for a society plagued by rampant crime. A Clockwork Orange works on many levels--visual, social, political, and sexual--and is one of the few films that hold up under repeated viewings. Kubrick not only presents colorfully arresting images, he also stylizes the film by utilizing classical music (and Wendy Carlos's electronic classical work) to underscore the violent scenes, which even today are disturbing in their display of sheer nihilism. Ironically, many fans of the film have missed that point, sadly being entertained by its brutality rather than being repulsed by it. -- Bryan ReesmanScreenshots: [Video]Codec: XviD 1.0.1 Bitrate: 1042 kb/s Resolution: 560x336 (1.67:1) FPS: 23.976 Qf: 0.231 bits/pixel Lenght: 02:16:44 (196,705 fr) [Audio]Codec: ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc Bitrate: 384 kb/s (6 ch) CBR Language: English Interleave: at every 96ms QPEL - No GMC - No BVOP - Yes PBIT - Yes ed2k: A.Clockwork.Orange.1971.DVDRip.AC3.XviD-OS.iLUMiNADOS.CD1.avi [700.62 Mb] [ Stats] ed2k: A.Clockwork.Orange.1971.DVDRip.AC3.XviD-OS.iLUMiNADOS.CD2.avi [697.83 Mb] [ Stats] ed2k: A.Clockwork.Orange.1971.DVDRip.AC3.XviD-OS.iLUMiNADOS.Subs.ENG.ESP.PT-BR.rar [101.1 Kb] [ Stats] Trailer: ed2k: A.Clockwork.Orange.1971.Trailer.DVDRip.AC3.XviD-OS.iLUMiNADOS.avi [9.09 Mb] [ Stats] |
Very tempted to post this in the horror sections, but I guess the genre nazis would be out in force. Self imposed ban in the uk after copycat murders and death threats. Perhaps kubricks best? Top film anyways... I have this on DVD so won't be sharing, but is from the verified section at fh and should be completable |

I'll wait for a newer release.... they say that kubrick use to shoot in 4:# and then cut the top and bottom to make it WS.
If so... I'll wait for the full frame version
(Oh god... cant wait for the full frame version of eyes wide shut, back in the theatre where I saw that flick, they showed a lot of Kidmans bush, thanks to the movie projectionist that didn't synced well the frame into the screen hahahaha, so I KNOW it's possible ...also for those that like Cruise.. you could see his thingy, but I wasnt very interested, so I cannot comment on that one) ----Love Kidman's bush

vtwin0001, he only intended 4:3 for tvs because back then tvs were only 4:3... his intention was 16:9 for cinema because of the size of the screen. The method of producing widescreen is always by cropping 4:3 "open matte", in this case he just made sure that there was nothing in the entire video frame, not just the intended AR, with the idea of reverting from the intended ar to open matte to fill 4:3 tvs. The whole "open matte" thing was the reason for the helicopter shadow f*ck up in the shining... your not meant to see it, its meant to be cropped out
He was such a stubborn old sod at times, that's why we got lumped with 4:3 even thought the intended cinema AR is 16:9. Towards the later days, he realised this and we started to see 16:9 kubrick's in the home market.
This is akin to a time when there was no such thing as widescreen tvs.
