Trillian does it, messenger+ does it, hell even gaim does it. and they log the chats too.

However, the chances that m$ have implemented a useful feature (unless you count ads as a useful feature) is unlikely.

I would recommend ditching it if you want more features, I'm using trillian atm, which isn't perfect but still leaps and bounds ahead of msn vanilla. If you do a search for tillian pro on emule you'll get it.

well...
I strongly suggest Miranda IM
It's like Trillian (I think) in the sense that you can use AIM, MSN, ICQ, IRC, Jabber, Yahoo and whatever in the same program and you can install shitloads of plugins that will enable to do almost anything including for example RSS and e-mail and customize to your heart's desire.
It's the kind of must-have "alternative" software like Firefox and Thunderbird :)
I have 11 active plugins running including, but not limited to, MSN, IRC and ICQ and it's consuming 7 480 KB of memory. What is that, like half of what MSN Messenger takes? ;)

btw it's ages ago I last used Trillian, and although Miranda IM is not perfect either, I'm sure you can do a hell of a lot more stuff with it.

except run multiple accounts for msn, correctly sort your contact list and other vital features that I can't use a messager without.

I'm assuming 'more stuff' refers to over msn, because trillian can do much, much, much, much, much more than miranda, which is in its was the cause of its only problems, since it uses more ram as a result.

Trillian:
  • multi network (aim/msn/irc/irq/yahoo) and multi-accounts, ie. different msn accounts for friends, and online contacts
  • fully customisable ui, replace smilies, sounds, images, backgrounds
  • supresses away messages to tray/container/under menus, for when your away or playing a game
    custom messages
  • full plugin in support - rss, spell checker, games, thesaurus, text to speech, speech to text, weather forecasting, news (there's lots, and lots of plugins, I'll put it that way). There's lots of functionality here.
  • logs all chats, by username, medium type, etc., timestamp, custom output, etc.
  • TOTAL management of user contact (ie renaming, sorting, categories)
  • etc.

Bugs:
has some problems with file transfers
sometimes crashes if your doing far too much stuff
pay software - its a bug in my opinion  Download cracked pro version from emule

Whereas miranda offers only basic features in comparison (multi network but not multi account, basic username sorting, etc.).
I tried miranda too ;) It was better than gaim, but unfortunately wasn't better than trillian, which I was trying to replace.

Taky, is referring to m+ I mentioned earlier, whilst I don't condone msn at all, it does add some nice features

oh and then there's none essential features that I just love, like the excessive but beautiful "grey windows not in focus", which greys out chat boxes that don't have focus (which is great when you have multiple chat windows)

yeah it never does what you want. It worked but was just lacking in every department, gaim was just anti-user.

lol, didn't know there was a trillian pro 3 now, I'm still on 2.0
Upgrading asap!

Pro 3 is still @ beta stage, although I've heard it's more stable in beta than 2.x is @ retail

Yeah, I was quite impressed with trillian pro 3, altho it had some strange behaviour for me, like message windows popping up for no reason, and I could not get the IRC or AIM side to work at all.

Will definitely grab it again tho when I have some time to fiddle with it.

ed2k: Trillian.Pro.v3.0.Alpha.1.Build.947.Cracked-SND.zip  [9.03 Mb] [Stats]

Windows popping up for no reason? That really is odd. Only times windows popup are if i double click a user, or if they send me a msg (or I receive a server message).

I had trouble with irc connecting to some networks, but I could get on hhah irc fine. AIM is fine too :)
