Hi all

I have just ordered a Divx player to play AVI's. I want to burn the avi's to dvd media. Do i have to put each film into a seperate folder so that i get a menu????

This site is much appreciated. And many thanks to everyone in advance.

Steve

You should be careful with that though.

I hear DIVX DVD players play burned CD's way better than they play burned DVD's.

I don't know, though, cuz I don't have a DVD-Burner.
My Philips DVP plays all my CD's though, with the exception of the ones that burned badly, which is my fault because I buy generic blank media.

It really doesn?t matter if you put the avi?s into folders or not.
With my Standalone a menue automatically pops up as soon as you put a DVD (as a rule with 6 avi?s on it) into the player.
When the avi?s are in folders you should be able to browse each folder.
So - just burn a ISO DVD (6 films on it) and go.

Some more thing:
If you?ve got a movie with subtitles rename the avi and the .srt file to the exactly same filename.
e.g. Candyman.avi and
Candyman.srt
Your player will then be able to read the subs.
If the filenames differ they won?t work.

Thanks so much for the info. It's about time that companies started to realise that we need good working kit. I will try with a rewritable dvd first and see how things go. Anyone who has had success please get in touch.

Could you tell me what you use to burn an ISO DVD as I also have a stand alone player but I quite often find that 1 or sometimes 2 movie's on the disc wont play yet play fine when burnt to a CDR. I use nero and I add the files as data to a DVD and burn. Am I doing somthing wrong
I actually found this post looking for the answer to a couple of q about subs 1 has been answered above but will do a new post for other q

i used to use nero 6 (smart start) then nero express for a DVD data disc and just drag and drop the files to the window and everything always worked fine :)

but i gave up on the standalone as it was having too many issues with Xvid rips especially GMC/Qpel and packed bitstream, now i use a modded xbox and everything runs as smooth as you like

Yes to be honest my stand alone works best with single cdr's. As for the codecs I do get firmware updates :D but not very often :(
I have heard the Xbox is the answer but at the mo ?? are short and with two young boys 5 +7 the've gone for the GC  But one day for sure they gonna want the next generation :D how can I turn em down

Check that it has a drive that reads CDR / DVDRs though, mine doesn't. :(

huh? It should... all xboxs can read dvdr.... Do not ask me why but in my case I can only read disks burn with STOMP RECORD NOW MAX.

But put your avi's or whatever mp3s etc etc and just burn as a normal DATA disk in stomp and you should be fine.. oh and make sure you finilise the disk.... I use DVD-R btw.

You can tell that the xbox reads dvdr media as if you make a backup of a dvd with rebuilder or shrink or whatever, burn with imgtool classic/dvd decryptor the disks will play.

Also once you set up the XBMC config file you can play media directly from your pc through the netwrok.
