that's why you use nandub when dealing with audio streams ;)

The question is, what's the point of even using CBR? CBR is poorer quality, and (normally) a larger filesize, it has no advantage over VBR and is pretty much redundant.

CBR assigns a Constant BitRate, whether the audio at any given time requires more or less than this constant, therefore, the bitrate is wasted on near silence and not enough on loud sound. The overall result is then oversized and poor quality.

VBR assigns a Variable BitRate, when the audio at a given time requires no real data, be it silence or whatever, the minimum bit is assigned to that given time, and when the audio requires alot of data to record the sound properally receives more data (ie. 128 can range from 64 (or less) to 164 (or more), depending on what you set the range to).

Therefore when you use CBR, you are wasting data that is better spent other wise (ahem, video), and using a poorer quality audio track. VBR means a smaller filesize and a better quality audio track.

The rule of thumb is, don't use CBR... period (okay there's some rare exceptions, but this isn't worth mentioning). This is one of the times I agree with the TDX guidelines (what release groups have to abide by or get nuked) that very tactfully says something like "NEVER USE CBR.... USE ONLY VBR"

Ok. That makes sense. But is there anyway to tell Gordian Knot to use Nandub instead of Vdubmod?

I'm not sure quite what your talking about, gknot uses both. Virtualdubmod for encoding video, then muxes the audio with nandub.
You don't manually use any of them :? The whole point of gknot is its a gui, you just work from the gui and it passes on all the info to the apps under neath it.

To do vbr, you juse set it to encode with an average of 128 (second tab along, audio 128, then uncheck audio overhead [if your using xvid 1.x], and select the first audio as vbr). Go through to the final encode dialogue, hit audio then select "Encode with an average bitrate of..." 128 (or whatever it says). Then go back to audio, and hit encode.

Not sure how u do it in autogknot, but i don't use that crap :)

Nevermind. I think i was drunk. :D It's just when you open any file in vdubmod that uses vbr you get that error. So i guess the easiest thing to do is just ignore it.

By the way did you get a chance to look at Adam and Evil and let me know where i fucked up with some of the frames(and audio now that i know this)?

I know what your saying but its not making much sense to me since what I'm saying is, the easiest thing is to open it up in nandub instead , not to use virtualdubmod at all, if you have VBR ;) Virtualdub/mod can't handle VBR, nandub can (infact that's the whole point of nandubs creation, it was a mod of Vdub that can handle more audio streams, like AC3, mp3 vbr, ogg, etc.). So instead of using vdmod, you just use nandub and there will be no error ;)

Adam and Evil looks excellent. I haven't watched but I did a scan through and apart from those encoding blocks, it looks very good. I'm not sure what causes those encode errors, i'm thinking xvid has a problem with the SVCD (were they there in the svcd? When i've downloaded svcd in the past, there has been that kind of crap in it). Anyways, looks nice :)

Well after i did the re-encode i used Vdubmod to delete one part that was on the end of the first Svcd and repeated at the very beginning of the second one. So i kept seeing that error when i would load the file to edit it out and i thought i was doing something wrong all the time so i would keep re-enocoding over and over not knowing why it's doing it? So i guess i could have just used Nandub to edit it out and would have never gotten that error.

Bear with me if some of what i say about this doesn't make sense to ya because this encoding stuff is kind of new to me. I've tried re-encoding (S)hit vcd before using that guide but i could never make it work out. So you don't know how greatful i am for your help with this. Huge cheers to you dude! :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:

I'm new to ED2K links but I'm hoping on this one, thanks a lot. Currently using Shareaza as my ED2K handler, any suggestions on a better APP for it?

Thanks again.
