I have a list of TONS of mp3's with the name and the md3 hash for each file.

I need to delete the name of the file and keep only the md3 number.

List is like this.

4343hfdsar343qwr staying alive.mp3
435wejfjehf335dfd eat me.mp3
ect.....

Just want the hash remaining.

Is there a shortcut for this?

thanks for any help.=)

In MS Word, you can do a search or "find" from the edit menu. There you have the option to find and replace. My recommendation is to find ".mp3" first, do not enter any text into the replace field and it will erase all ".mp3"'s. Then do the same thing except choose to search for any words, and then replace.

That might work out ok.

You can do this easily in excel using the left function and the concatenate function, import them all into excel then in the adjacent cell type this (assuming your text is in column a and your has is 16 digits long)
Code:
=left(a1,16)&".mp3"

That should do it, you could even write a macro to change the filenames too

If you had an os with proper tools like the bash shell you could do on the commandline:
for i in *.mp3; do mv "$i" "${i:0:17}"; done

That would be all. Only the hashes remaining. :-D

Thanks for the tip PCA. Don't know if I'll ever need it, but gave it a quick test and works great.

One tip though:

After typing the function for the first cell, drag from the lower right of the cell (small black +) down to insert for each additional.

Animated for me, but the timing is wrong. Several seconds a black square, then a short unrecognisable flash of something, than black square again. But I don't care. Ususally I have animations disabled anyways.

Well, seems like it's working fine then... a black square and then a flash of my usual avatar. Sort of like it appears in the movie. :wacky:

Just that the flash is that short that it is hardly visible at all. Totally impossible to see what appears and disappears.
