Okay, here's the problem. I have a JVC XV-NP10 DVD player. It's DivX certified, and will play basic data CD-R's that contain DivX/XviD coded .avi's. It works really well...but some files it will play, and some it won't. I have done some research into this, and these are the conclusions I've arrived at. Also, I only have a CD burner at the moment, mind you.

I used AVI Codec in order to get some info about the files I've been burning. It seems that all the files that won't playback correctly have one thing in common. Here's what I'm seeing.

Works:

Video framerate - 29.970 Audio - 48000hz
Video framerate - 23.976 Audio - 48000hz
Video framerate - 25.000 Audio - 44100hz

Does not work:

Video framerate - 29.970 Audio - 44100hz
Video framerate - 23.976 Audio - 44100hz
Video framerate - 25.000 Audio - 48000hz

The ones that fall into the "Does not work" category tend to just jump around on the video, while playing the audio. We're talking really heavy skipping, here...and I've seen times where it was trying to show multiple scenes simultaneously.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if it sounds like I'm on the right track, or if I'm way off base on this. Also, if I am on track...how would I go about fixing either the framerate or the audio? I'm relatively new to this, as I just obtained this dvd player for Christmas.

Also, I'm new here. I'd like to say hi, and thank you all for this glorious site. You've truly created a treasure here.

Thanks for any responses I may get as well.

I'd be surprised if its that, but who knows, some of these players are silly though :o

Anyway do not 'fix' frame rate, that's the worst thing since it doesn't need fixing its correct and you'll get lots of problems if u attempt it.

Just change the sample rate of the audio. You can do this with a program like Besweet which you can get @ http://www.doom9.org :)

Thanks a lot. I had actually been looking at some of the stuff on Doom9, and wasn't quite sure what to use.

I'll see if that will fix the problem, and let you know how it goes.

Spud...thank you so much.

I downloaded BeSweet, and the gui. I used it, and got the type of smaple rate I needed. I then downloaded Gordian Knot, and realized that I could have skipped step one, but it re-encoded the file for me (at a much smaller size, albeit) but, it worked. Doesn't look too shabby either.

I tried it with Buio Omega, and changed the rate from 48000 to 44100. I'm going to try and take a 23.976 or 29.970 and up the sound to 48000 from 44100. I'll let you know if that worked, as well.

Yep, the player is THAT silly.

Thanks again for the input.
