Murderdolls is crap, Death SS. That's horror metal.
(And btw; SS has nothing to do with our little moustached german friend. It stands for Steve Sylvester.)

Mad Sin are good, although not strictly punk.

I agree this. Death SS is a best horror metal band. There is also other good horror or occult horror or what ever horror metal bands in italy. Best horror movies come from Italy too.

You are right about that, but Italian horror metal bands also sound like horror. One good horror metal band that really sound like old horror movies is a Necrophagia from usa and they have guy in their cover art that looks like a coffin joe. Negrophagias vhs Through Eyes of the Dead looks like a 4 "splatter" shortmovie stories and one of those music videos is taken from Lucio Fulci's movie The Beyond.

Here is good customer comment taken from Amazon:

I got this video in the mail two days after it's release, popped it in the VCR and got exactly what I wanted, GORE! This has got it all: necrophilia, cannibalism, torture, lesbianism, sick Satanic rituals, zombies and the music by the best death metal band ever, NECROPHAGIA. This video is NOT for the faint of heart and the queasy, but it's NOT the sickest thing ever released (Aftermath was sicker) but it's extreme, sadistic, unrelenting gore. You NEED this video on your shelf. I can't recommend it enough. The video has five songs in it (plus interviews & other cool stuff), and the video for "And You Will Live In Terror" has a lot of clips from the film which it was based on, Maestro Lucio Fulci's gore masterpiece, "The Beyond", which I suggest you also check out. BUY THIS VIDEO OR MAY YOU BE IN "THROUGH EYES OF THE DEAD PART 2"! In the words of Killjoy, GORE FOREVER!

There will really only ever be one subgenre using the word "Horror" in my opinion and thats Horror Punk. The Misfits(77-83) started this(they didnt officially name it Horror Punk though) and many bands have followed. Especially lately. One band i'd like to recommend to all as an example is DieMonsterDie.

The reason i only consider Horror Punk official is because its foolish to label Death or Black metal with the word horror. If you own ANY number of Death or Black metal albums and none of them are centered around something dark or horrific in any way then your probably listening to christian metal and your an idiot. Unless of course your listening to NSBM but even that contains a wealth of Horrorific type lyrics. Hell, the views and opinions of NSBM musicians are downright horrific(more like fuckin stupid) haha! If for some reason you think your listening to Black Metal but your not getting that horror feel then its probably some neoclassical bullshit with a black metal edge.

I am more and more willing to consider the subgenre of Gore Metal though. But as far as extreme metal bands(death, black, grindcore) go if i were to attach the word horror to any of them it would be bands like Mortician,Necrophagia, and the great Impetigo.

In the end, people get too godamn carried away with genre and subgenre labeling(myself included sometimes). If a person needs that much fucking help figuring out what something is they probably shouldnt be listening to music at all.

More info on Horror Punk: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_punk

As for other bands mentioned: I never considered Death SS to be horror metal but they sure arent lacking in that department. I have some of the Gravediggaz stuff. Grave digga nigga, 6 feet deep! lol!

Dimmu Borgir doesnt hold much interest for me these days but thats not to say that they didnt have their share of good releases. Especially early on.

You can definately say Cradle of Filth is Horror but personally i dont like their newer shit. One more reference to some virgin vamp nymph shit and i think i'll go nuts. Not to mention Dani gets on my godamn nerves. Just my opinion.

Since Italy was mentioned above i feel it would be unfair not to mention GOBLIN. Now there is a true Horror Movie band! Can i get an amen!? Hehe.

Necrophagia's Through the Eyes of the dead was lots of fun. I remember when that came out i was still running my distro. I was selling cds and t-shirts but i was also selling copies(dupes) of "uncut unreleased" Horror movies on vhs(Dvd ended all of that rather quickly) so naturally my customer base consisted of metal fans and horror fans and metal fans that loved horror. Needless to say i ordered about 20 copies of Necrophagia's video from my supplier and i sold them all in 2 days. For me that was very fast back then. Good times.

I failed to mention Samhain in this post but its only because i love Samhain and i cannot mention Samhain without wanting to type a giant godamn article. This by far is Glenn Danzigs best creation in my jaded opinion. I'll get the hell out of here before i get carried away(too late).

Bset horror-related music genre has to be zombiecore, with bands like Zombie Apocalypse, Send More Paramedics and The Dead Hate the Living.
