Quite easy if you take off the heatsink. The hardest wire to do is on the bios chip, you have to solder to a leg of the chip. Just use a soldering iron with a small tip and low heat, you'll be fine.

yeah, well the lid open button is the big plastic one you can see inside the lid.

I just want to be able to take the lid off and tweak the laser, its just the melted BIC is a really weird thing to say, since it has no follow up or preceding comments about it.

Now take your carved haddock and...

To do the BIC pen method, simply use the pen's plastic barrel
as your handle and heat the narrow end up with a heatgun,
torch, or gas flame until it becomes very soft... it may catch
fire, and if so let it burn a bit before blowing it out. Next, push
the soft warm plastic onto the security screw, pushing hard
enough so the plastic forms around the shape of the screw
head. Now, remove the plastic pen barrel, let it cool down
(you can run it under water to assist with this) and you now
should have a "homemade" BIC GameCube screwdriver!
All that is left now is to use it to remove these 4 screws.

Google is your friend :)

yeah this is the button, but you have to open up the cube, and tape back the two little levers that are under the button, why do you think you need to open it?

Bic method with pictures: http://www.maxconsole.com/?mode=comments&newsid=3165

It's really not hard. Just melt a pen, stick it in hold it for a while, twist.

Says on Maxconsole there is a sale on viper at Divineo now so go look there.

As for the laser, it really depends on your cube. You could be lucky and not have to tweak it, or you could not be able to boot anything no matter how much you tweak (some people can't). I have tried 2 and both had to have the laser tweaked, and I tried with 3 brands of disc. When I tweaked, all discs worked.

I can verify that RE4 works with this method :beerchug:

BUT I can't do the laser tweak cos I have an old and shitty Multimeter (which I will rectify tomorrow) so I couldn't tweak my laser to get it to read the DVD-R I burnt, it read it once then complained about the disk being unreadable.

BUT it DOES work as advertised :)

and it looks as though you do not have to tape the lid down if using 8cm media

cool, well no time tonight so I'll try tomorrow. So it doesn't matter about region coding then?

I found RE4 on that torrent site, thx to arnesr... I guess since booting works fine.

Coolness, no chips for me :)

Zelda's out at the end of the year on the gamecube still btw, I would have thought they'd upped it to the revolution. Rumour has it they are working on two other zeldas too, one new one for the DS and one for the revolution. Lets hope its true :)

I got my cube taped anyway PCA, I'll try with some full sized media tomorrow (only have datawrite) :)

My 8cm disks <s>should arrive today</s> have arrived this morning and I'm also going to get a decent digital multimeter (hopefully), so I should be ready to go tonight :beerchug:

The gamecube is a BITCH to take apart in totality though, nintendo have used a ridiculous amount of screws!

The Bic thing worked first time for me BTW although I didn't bother reading the instructions and burnt the NON writing end, piece of piss.

So did I lol, but the screws on my gamecube were in extremely tight, which meant the plastic kept wearing down. Was just one last screw that wouldn't come out.

I'm just not going to put it back together. I didn't see many other screws when I had a quick look, you press those little things in and the laser comes off.
