I'm about to encode a PAL 16:9 anamorphic interlaced movie.
AR on cover is said to be 1.85:1.
The movie is 99 min long. To stay inside 702 Mb and keep a [bits/(pixel*frame)] value of at least 0.22, I have to choose a resolution that has more than 2% of AR error. The only way to keep closer to 0% is to dramatically drop resolution down to 384x208. This is unacceptable to me. So I've tried to change horizontal W-Modul in GordianKnot to 16: this way I can choose 560x304 with 0.199 [bits/(pixel*frame)] and a 0.3% AR error.
But I've read in Spud's Tips and many other faqs that it's better to keep W-Modul at 32 to avoid software resizing and horrible artifacts. Is there any solution to this? Is 2.2% AR error too high?
Keep in mind that I want to release this movie and keep it stand-alone friendly.

no, I think sometimes an AR error of that degree is unavoidable, about 5% will be when it looks distorted.

BTW for a 1cd, its ~0.18bits/pixel, 0.22bits/pixel is for a 2cd rip :)

Allright, then it's always better to stay with W-Modul at 32. Thanks :)

Can you explain this? You mean for 1cd it's better to have AT LEAST 0.18, or that for 1cd it's BETTER to have 0.18 than 0.22+ ?
