you mean REALLY SCARED? that must have been when watching either 'the timemachine' (the one from the seventies) or 'the fearless vampire killers' (don't remember which one i saw later). these two scared the hell out of me. i was having nightmares for months to come. but if i remember correctly after that i was never scared because of a movie anymore. sure, sometimes i get a shiver down the spine (eg. 'ju-on' was able to trigger that effect) or something, mostly a sound, can startle me. but even this happens only rarely.

i guess i just watched too many horror flicks to still be frightened. like when i first watched 'texas chainsaw massacre' i wasn't scared but i thought it to be very nasty indeed. and then i watched it a second time recently and i was rather bored than on the edge of my seat...

If my memory serves me well.... I think that has to be Scream (yeah, go ahead, laugh :wacky: ). It was when it just came out, we watched it at some birthday party and i couldn't sleep for a couple of day after. It was when it just came out so i think i was around 10 or 11 years old back then.
I don't recall being scared by a movie after that one. (Jumps and the like left out of course, that doesn't really have anything to do with fear.)

D. is just a little punk? You got ID son?

Seriously tho, the first film that disturbed me was a film called Nightwing I believe. Pretty sure it was rabid bats or something.
Why it got to me so much is a mystery, maybe linked to my strange fear of birds?!?!?!?!?

What made it even stranger was the fact that before that I had seen what I thought were much worse films.

The Birds - when I was 8 years old. My Mum and Dad didn't want to watch it, so I ended up alone with a black and white TV in my bedroom. I was that petrified I couldn't move - frozen to the chair. Looks tame now (still a great movie though), but it shit me up back then and nothing else has come close.

I was going to say the same movie. Saw it when I was 10 or 11 and since then I've hated birds even more than I used to :wacky:

Besides that, Suspiria and the Beyond were a good fright for me too the first time I saw them. Especially Suspiria.

Since then, can't think of anything else.

EDIT: wrong. I can think of something else. The first time I saw The Haunting, when I was around 16, I was alone at my parents' place and I had to watch some stupid tv afterwards before I dared going to bed   that certainly was my last good fright.

When I was very little I saw a version of A.E.Poe's 'The Tattle-Tale Heart'. Took quite some time until I did not expect to see the eye everywhere when it was dark.

Well, I'm happy to say that I've gotten old enough to allow my suspension of disbelief to kick in enough to get scared by movies, again. Of course, that doesn't work if the movie is clumsy crap, but for the good ones...I hope the same for all of you.
So, let's see, recently, Scream, Blaiir Witch, Session 9 creeped me out, Ringu, Ju-On: the Curse, Woman in Black (old, but I just saw it), The Eye had a few good moments, Kairo freaked the crap out of me.
Now, none of these movies left me shivering at night unable to go to sleep. That never happens anymore. But they built their tension masterfully and executed fine scares that worked.
Way back when, Friday 2, Nightmare on Elm Street, Deep Red, Halloween, and a few others scared me.

Scum, all birds are scum. They can attack from above, they got stupid fookin beaks and claws, and worst of all they are descended from dinosaurs.

Hang on, maybe we can help them into extinction? :moon:
