S/PDIF Cables

Do I need a special kind of cable to output audio & video from my laptop to a TV via the S/PDIF port?

Or any cable that goes from small jack plug to 2 or 3 phono plugs?

I have a cable for my DV Camcorder to link it to the TV which looks like it might fit the S/PDIF port, would that be the thing to use?

I've always found the s-video out pretty shit, so I assumed the S/PDIF would be an alternative that carries audio. Well, I guess it is......it just doesn't carry video. :lol:

the major use of a S/PDIF output is when you have an avi file (or a DVD) with AC3 5.1 audio and an external Dolby-Digital decoder. you can do the pass-thru of the audio stream directly into your DD set.
