Deadbeat, have you ever looked at ed2k: FairUse.1.0.full-fixed.rar [4.25 Mb] [ Stats] ?? It's simpler to understand than GK. It's a wizard that takes you through each step (resolution, cropping, codec, etc) and will make you a good rip.

gordian knot is not an easy thing to learn, takes awhile to get use to it, with all the option it has on it from the cropping and file size you want and setting up 2 pass on xvid. avs filter is another option on there that takes awhile to get use to also if you want to clean up old vhs tapes. thats why they did auto gordian knot for new people, who didn't get how gordian knot worked.
so looking on doom9 at there guide and look in there forum on what people chat about and what worked for them and what didn't.
by no means am no master at it but i know my way around it and have a feel for the options it has.
