If you're going to choose between eDonkey and eMule, you should definately go for eMule. Better in every way, to my experience.

edonkey2000 has been far down the pecking order ever since emule first appeared.

Its a small development team (which some questionable developments for edonkey) versus a huge development team (for emule), from a update and development stand point the programs can't compare. The unfortunate truth is that edonkey2000 was abandoned when the author tried to force a switch to overnet. It became apparant very quickly that that wasn't going to happen, and both networks dwindled (one from under use, the other from under (no) development).

Emule appeared whilst edonkey2000 was dead, and totally owned it. From then on edonkey2000 development is scrappy, its just copy and pasting code from overnet to try and port to another network. There's been a few improvements but not much.

Emule is particularly recommend for a huge wealth of downloads at the same time.

I would also recommend mldonkey, and amule over edonkey2000. These two are linux clients primarly but there's a windows port of mldonkey (even though its not worth bothering with in favour of emule).

amule is probably the best client for nix.

There's a FAQ section about configuring any routers or firewalls.

I've got to say I'm well impressed by emule, now I'm slowly learning the tips, its much faster than donkey2000.
Started a movie yesterday and today it finished, never did that before.

I like all the little gadgets that come with it,and plenty of support.I live in the far east,so I will now start hunting for any movies not listed.

You should also try one of the BitTorrent clients. Do what I do, use BT for new shit, and emule for everything else.

eMule truely is god when it comes to older/rarer stuff.

As for BT, try ABC or BitTornado.
