I recently stopped "Satan's Little Helper".
What a load of amateuristic **** that was.
And in addition I also deleted "Playhouse" and another
one of which I can't even remember it's name of my HDD.
As I recall I've dl-ed them of this site.
Normally I always sit through the entire movie,no matter how
gruesome it is.But these ones I just couldn't bare
But as an old Chinese verb says : to recognize something good
you'll have to know the bad (....)
BTW : I also sat through the entire "Alone in the Dark"

I'm not saying that Cure is a kid's film. It just doesn't fit my definition of horror. Same with Seven, Silence of the Lambs, etc. They're thrillers. Why? Because the protagonist isn't in any danger (except maybe at the end). The easy way to tell, most of the time, is that thrillers have cops as the main characters. Its like the difference between action and adventure. In adventure, someone shoots at you and you run away, while, in action, you shoot back once in a while.
I liked Satan's Little Helper. It worked as a dark comedy.
Tried to sit through The Ghouls. What a piece of shit. Bad acting. lame characters and nothing to redeem. It might have got gorier, but who cares?

Walked out on "The Ring 2" (thank goodness it was a matinee!)
Returned "Flesh For The Beast" to Suckbuster VERY scratched
Wish I had turned off "Hideaway" before the last 5 minutes

I think that's a very weak and weakly applicable generalisation, neither of which are quite true in any real sense for any of the genres mentioned.
In the most general sense, horror merely means an overwhelming sense of torment, repulsion or fright. Which is why the genre is wide open to exploitation and snuff movies.
Thrillers in this sense can easily be called horrors or probably better Dark Thrillers as a compromise, meaning they are more horror oriented than cop and hunt style movies.
Its the same argument that a space prop overrides content to make it a scifi (which has been argued to death now).

Not sure if you'd call it turning the movie off or anything but I was falling asleep while watching Lunatic about 2 weeks ago and I still haven't gone back to finish watching it yet - shame because there was only about 20mins left and I was actually enjoying it alot.
Sorry if I strayed off topic a bit here...

i know there's been a few others, too, like some recent Stephen King effort that i can't remember at all, but most notable ones were Constantine and Saw...both i found to be not only boring but also pretentious...boring and bad i can usually endure especially if i have enough to eat and drink through the movie, but glaringly pretentious i can't stand, not even drunk (there's a contradiction here since i did stand through King's Storm of the Century, but it did take me great many days to do that...)
Incidentally, i ever only walked once out of the movie theatre, and that was the End of Days (my wife wouldn't let me walk out on Matrix, so i slept instead)

I almost walked out of Devil's Rejects. I'm glad I didn't because the end is good, but it was a close run thing.

Alone in the dark definately. man that movie was so bad.. and i TRIED i really did, i gave it three tries. each time i couldnt make it more then 20 minutes. Devils rejects i thought was great. and surprisingly to myself i really did like flesh for the beast i went into it thinking it was going to suck hard. but it turned out to be one of the better blockbuster movies ive rented in a long time.
man... alone in the dark is so bad.... i guess my first red flag shoulda been the name Uwe Bolle.
man now looking over Uwe's history here on imdb whats up with this guy? does he have a friggin contract with microsoft or something? if you look at his upcoming film list for 2006 it reads like this:
Far Cry (2006) (announced)
Fear Effect (2006) (announced)
Hunter: The Reckoning (2006) (announced)
Night Claws (2005) (announced)
Dungeon Siege (2006) (filming)
Bloodrayne (2005) (post-production)
anyone else see a pattern here?
and looking over the cast for dungeon siege it appears hes got ray liotta cast as the elf and burt reynolds as king konried!!! lol man.. this one might be hawk the slayer 2k!
lol from the IMDB message board for hunter:the reckoning:
Jan 29 ? Hollywood
Director Uwe Boll (Alone In The Dark, House Of The Dead ) has just announced that he will begin production of a new ?Pac-Man? movie as early as February 2006.
The story revolves around an enigmatic yellow ball with a mouth whose dream in life is to eat as many ?power pellets? as possible. His quest is hampered by a group of ghosts who are intent on catching and killing ?the Pac?.
Jack Black has signed on in the role of ?Pac-Man?. The roles of the four ghosts are yet to be cast, although the director has been recently seen in talks with Russell Crowe and Winona Ryder.
Uwe Boll has declined to comment on the persistant rumor that his follow-up movie will be the much anticipated ?Pong?.

Hiya
Ive got to confess to having been a bit of a "Lurker" for a while, but thought i'd come forward and offer me 2 penneth to this one...
I sat through Mr Bolls "House of the Dead" today... without even a Tea Break!!! By no means is it in the same league as "Manos Hands of Fate" or "Santa with Muscles", but yeah.. its bad!
Ive got to confess even to being quite impressed with the amount of head mulchings and other fx on show.
Although, what Im sure was supposed to be the highlight, namely the extended, 2 song, shootout with the living dead, was quite laughable - its always refreshing to see, what may be considered cutting edge cinematic technique to be squandered so poorly as the "bullet time" sequences.. Im kinda thinkin Mr Boll may have had some sort of "arrangement" with the visual studios which would see him a cut in the proceeds, such was their over abuse...
No way does it meet the "So Bad its Good" benchmark set in the Jon Mikl Thor vehicle "Edge of Hell", but still, its got enough going for it in some way or another to keep me watching to the end - although, if i plunked down ?6.50 to see this at the cinema, I woulda been pukin, havin one of me mates pay up for it, wasnt such a bitter pill to swallow... Yeah, on the grade of cinematic achievement, it sucks shit, but at least it kept my attention for the entire running time, which is more than can be said for a lot of "better" movies...
I actually switched off "Undead" recently. I have a weekly "Film Club" with my bro, to which I thought id bring that along to, as we're both major living dead fans, but despite a highly entertaining and promising pre credits sequence, the movie quickly shifts to formulaic Horror territory, quite embarrassingly at that. The macho "hero" has got to rank as one of the most cringeworthy characters ever committed to celluloid. Ive read on other forums that hes supposed to be a sendup, but in the context of the film, I just don't buy it. Unlike HotD, the shooting scenes just didnt keep me hooked (someone please tell me otherwise!) and the "action" ended just after the "wall" scene... Unfortuately, this one was my purchase... Undead sucks more than House of the Dead... never thought i'd hear myself say that!!!
Love to hear anyone elses thoughts...

Undead, as in the aussie movie? That film so didn't deserve to be compared to house of the dead. Its not even slightly serious, or particularly scarey if that's what you were expecting.
I can't even bring myself to compare to house of the dead, which really is totally shit... boll just can't direct. Its quite clear if you watch any of his movies, he has no real control over anything, his visions are purile mtv set pieces that look like some music video... with so many bullets flying around in house of the dead and alone in the dark, i would have never have conceived of action so lame, with that amount of bullets whizzing round... its just boring. Unwatchable. Alone in the dark is probably worse, but i aint rewatching either to find out.
Undead isn't overly brilliant but i thought it was rather good, its not a horror movie to any real stretch as far as i recall. All i can recall is that i was rather entertained, at the cinema the "fucking" man got a fair few laughs, and I don't remember hating any characters apart from the uber hero, but i kind of thought the point was to make him stupid.

To be honest, I didnt really know what to expect from Undead, although Id heard it referred to to as the the next Braindead before I saw it (imagine my surprise then!).
What Id heard for House of the Dead was nothing but bad press.
I guess it was a case of expectations, but Im going to stand my ground on Undead. The trailer looked the shit, but despite a highly promising opening, the movie really dropped off as soon as everyone started turning up at Marions house and got real boring, real quick. The Gun battles truly were bland and repetative, with the pudgy bearded uber heros antics sending my head to hands on more than one occasion. I dunno about the send up, Im sure there were fanfares and all that, for his escapades...
However, as ridiculous as House of the Dead was, I stuck around to the end. I totally agree with you on the charges levelled at it - its shit, but with Bolls amazing pacing, you can never be too far away from the next ludicrously staged scene...
Bullet time shots of silly teens jumping in the air firing shotguns
vs
Slo mo shots of people, seemingly not really firing at much (but with the occasional Zombie head jumping into shot)
HotD was Ludicrous
Undead was Boring
IMO Boring is one of the worst facets a movie can display...

Quote: | although Id heard it referred to to as the the next Braindead before I saw it |
yeah those kind of screw up your impression, but it is a aussie comic film with gore, which is kind of like braindead which was a new zealand aussie comic gore movie.
I saw undead last at the cinema, it went down rather well actually i recall, but i don't remember too much apart from enjoying it, and the whole alien virus, giant wall, and the plane flying into all the bodies as well as the main characters (not so much of the hat man except that i did recall him kind of being a cringeworthy addition, might have been because the script and actor didn't carry it right... might have been a job for Bruce Campbell ).
HoTD was boring too, come on! Remember the stupid flashback scenes and the cult gimps in the woods. Contrived scenes leading to predictable deaths, totally detatched character and plot, and with an mtv gloss. It might be better watching the pixels on the screen rather than the movie, and i suspect a lot of people will end up doing that.
This all reminds me, i saw HOTD and Undead all on the same night, at the same cinema. Mucha Sangre stole the limelight from both of them, and bubba ho-tep totally ruled the whole thing. However, hotd had people getting up and leaving to get food, undead kept everyone entertained. I certainly had a look around during HOTD, whereas i watched and enjoyed undead.
Going to have to watch undead again to see if its any better/worse than i remember, I think one of the two is garanteed, i can't imagine my opinion of HOTD being any worse than what it is, because i don't think you can give opinions that low I won't ever watch it again.
If it wasn't at a cinema, i'd have turned HOTD off and skipped to the next movie, can't remember if it was Mucha Sangre or Undead, but both were definitely better.
What did everyone else think of undead, I think bassline ripped it so owns it on dvd.. i'd probably buy it at a budget price range since i didn't think it was that bad.
