Hi all,

Just got a fresh installation of Windows XP and now want to install some codecs.
Question is if it?s better to install them separately e.g. ffdshow and/or xvid, divx then ac3 filter, vobsub, matroska and so on or just take a codec pack from doom9.org like Gordian Knot Codec Pack?
PC where it?s gonna be installed is used for playback & conversion of movies which don?t play on the standalone TViX DVD Jukebox
(great standalone player and very small for people who want portability and an external hd function)
Wanted to do it right this time without having several versions of some codecs :argue: with each other.
I?ve read the sticky Codec?s thread but can?t find an answer to my question (maybe I?m just blind)
Hope you guys can help me but I?m very confident with it
Thanks in advance :beerchug:

When i did a clean install i just installed the codecs seperately as and when i needed them, didn't go for the pack option like i did before.

I only install FFDshow (and CoreFLAC for music) and then add standalone codecs if/when they are needed. But I don't do any editing or encoding, I only watch (if MPlayer had a better UI, I wouldn't install any codecs and just use MPlayer - its codecs are standalone [no need to install, no mess in Windows] and support some rather nice tricks [instant seeking, for example])

I only install Koepis xvid and whatever is the newest version of divx. Anything else that may be needed is added as and when I need it.
