wah... they have forums now?

I looked @ some of the all isps forums but people just bitch in all of them. Thinking about it, the only reason people would really want to post is a) they need help/info b) they have a problem c) they are offering praise

Since its an isp, c is unlikely, so i think its fair to say "all people have an absolute nightmare migrating to them."

I moved to them before migration had been invented, and it was a day or two late i think... or it might have come on at a strange time... I can't remember at all  Migration sucks for all, the worst and most cruel one i've personally heard firsthand was for one of my uni mates. Eclipse broadband set everything through, cancelled his line with bt, then said, "oh actually you can't have adsl"

Hope they won't mess you around anyway :D

You're absolutely right. It's just a bit worrying to find that section of the site (after they take your order) and see all the complaints!

One thing though, do they keep dropping the price of your connection? When I ordered, a 2Mbit line was on offer at ?29/month until the 30th of June. Now they've changed it to ?25/month until the 15th July! :o Just wondering if I'll be paying the ?29 or ?25.

Yes, at amazing speed... they want everyone to use their phones and broadband is even cheaper, but there quality of the line isn't supposed to be very good.

But they keep dropping the prices and their support, at least in contacting you is pretty darn good these days.

I just wish BT weren't so shit upgrading the exchange, I can still only get 2mbit max on my exchange.

Woo. I took Alltime2000 and apparently I don't need to take a Bulldog phone line with that. :?

I thought you had to though, to get the BB service. Got to admit, their website is terribly sparse in giving you information about exactly what is and isn't included and what you must have to get their service.

Just hope it runs smoothly once I'm migrated. :)

oh no you don't need a bulldog one, its just its a hell of a lot cheaper still if you do... that's all i meant, you don't need to be on bulldog phones for anything other than far cheap costs.

I still use a bt line and will never really want to change given the experience others have told me about other telephone companies.

Yeah, I wasn't keen on changing from BT but I though I had to when ordering a Bulldog BB service. Glad I can stay with BT for phone. :)

One other thing, is there anywhere on their site that gives the connection settings for routers? The setup guide only covers plugging in a usb modem. :wacky:

EDIT: Woo. Activation date 11/07/05

EDIT2: Boo.

Thank you for your email. We have placed an order for the migration of your service. Currently you are on a 512kb service with your current provider. We are only able to migrate like for like services, so once the migration is complete we will upgrade your product to the requested speed.

Pipex onto heavy usage, news a couple of days old.

Btw, I've been using PPPoE for ages now, since discovering it was set accidently wrong a few weeks ago.

Just consider it like when you get up and your in a rush and put your tshirt on inside out

What are newsgroups like on everyone's isp? I was talking to someone at fileheaven who seems to think that lots of isps even bother implementing them, and lots of them even have binaries with good retention. In my experience, newsgroups are really crappy in this country, hardly any isps implement them and even then the retention totally sucks barring one or two companies that is.

They seem to be OK on Powernet (my current provider), but I have never bothered to get to grips with the whole binaries thing, so couldn't comment on the retention or completion of files.

As I understand it, Bulldog doesn't offer a news server?

oh boy have you dropped the ball on that one, newgroups (if they are hosted well) are the best way to get 0-day releases.

Bulldog don't even have a a webcache, they seem to want to waste as much money on bandwidth as possible. If they setup a competant webcache server and some newgroup servers, they'd say a shit load on external bandwidth.

If I was bothered about 0-day releases, I wouldn't be using the Mule.

It was something I considered when making the decision to move to Bulldog, but I've used the news server so little it was hardly a factor. The non-binary groups I use can still be accessed through Google Groups anyway.
