i'd never want no binaries, that defeats the prupose , no its the concept of grabbing newer releases @ full line speed without crippling my connection (as p2p does). There's loads of horror to get at.

Well a 2MB connection with Powernet costs ~?90/month :o so with the money I save, I can get a decent news server and still be well in pocket. ;)

They certainly do, albeit with a limit of ~32K/s download.

That's just it, about a month ago they were the shit, but all this new crap is disappointing. There's further news (user views) on the throttling here:

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat.ph ... 5&o=0&vc=1

As for newsgroups, the 10gb (month) limit on Giganews that Pipex use is pretty fine, I think there's a speedcap as well, I don't know, I only use it for celebrity pictures that I collect/post (dvd rips etc, me and a mate run several celebrity sites)

Well, the jury's out on Bulldog at the moment.

What they did do: Transfer my service to them today (as advised)

What they didn't do: Upgrade the connection to 2Mbit as promised, give me any information regarding my email account, send me the "license key details" as promised.

If they sort it out by the end of the week I'll be happy. Time will tell. :)

Do you have a current ETA for completion of the specified tasks?

It was all supposed to be done yesterday. They've transferred the line OK (as promised), and sent me the settings for modems/routers to access their service. I've got a connection which works fine at 512KB, but it should be 2MB. They haven't told me what my email addresses are, or the passwords/connection settings for their mail servers.

So basically, they've just switched over the line.

lol, proving once again the only successful date quote any isp can do is the date the bill will arrive +

your supposed to have one? i don't pay for any of bulldogdsls services, so i don't get any of the stuff listed on their homepage.

Its better to be free from your isp anyway, gmail :)

You get 4 email addresses with an Alltime 2000 connection (apparently). I've now put them in my "Officially fucking useless" category.

Emailed them about the problem and some numpty sent me exactly the same email that I'd already been sent (which doesn't contain details of email). Email is typically 2 days for a reply.

Rang up today to try and chase along the enquiry and got some dopey bird who told me I could log into the homepage with my broadband access ID & password and "get all the information there". Of course, I couldn't.

Rang back later and was told "We can't tell you anything about it because you set it up yourself, you need to ring tech support". Ring tech support and they are "experiencing extremely high volumes of calls, please ring back later" - permanently.

Fortunately, someone at adslguide posted the email addresses of all the managers, so I'll give it a little longer and then whip up a shitstorm.

hmmm i'm on alltime 2000, and they didn't give me an email... it was listed under their 'extras' package, which has a thimble of webspace and some mail addresses, neither of which i need for anything :)

More Pipex stuff: All those who had a free upgrade and are syncing at 2mb will eventually be throttled by Pipex to around 145ks, which is just over the 1mb upgrade promised. Any 2meg speeds won't last. Info courtesy of newsgroups.
