Although I must say that in the last case where I had oversizing, it turned out that everytime there was something wrong with the avs script. When I finally managed to get the script right, the oversizing was gone.

All the rips i've tried have been VHS caps and i'm trying to standardize res at 512x384 (which is the best res i can get without going into the red...) - i presume i'm trying to get too high quality from fairly poor input? Haven't had a chance to read the other threads yet, so i'm just pissing in the wind...

747mb + mp3 vbr @ ~96-128 kb/s ? You should be able to get more than 512x out of it unless your movie is quite long I wouldn't recommend a single script to rip your vhs', I wouldn't recommend a single standard script for any rip

I would suggest some noise filters (heavy noise), a decent lower bitrate matrix (maybe jawors 1cd, or vlq), and maybe a deblocker.

What is your capture format? VHS->DVDr? VHS->MPEG1/2? VHS->DV/MPEG4?

Movies are just standard length - 1:30 give or take. I've been doing 700mb + 128kbps MP3 VBR, the caps are just VHS ->DVDr through DVD recorder at best compression (13min/GB).

Haven't learnt anything more about GK than bugs' guide here, so not sure what you mean by a single script? Do you use the noise filter options or do you mean an add-on filter?

I think he means that you shouldn't write one script (avs script, the one you can edit in GK - adding plugins and filters and the like) for all your rips. Every movie is different, so you need a different script for any of them.



Try the noise filter options first (heavy noise), if that's not enough, you could always try extra filters later on.

I would recommend DegrainMedian and VagueDenoiser as noise filters. They are much better than those "standard" denoisers provided with GordianKot.

You're right, but wretch is only trying his first rip with GK. I think it's wise he gets to know GK first, and add filtering outside of GK later.

Ok,i have a question.
I have AGK 2.45 and i put a movie to encoding process.

The question is : Why there is no progress bar so i can't see how much is left (i mean it doesn't have to be the bar,some percentage showing will be just fine) ?

I suppose AGK is AutoGKnot. There is no progress bar in AGK itself but there should be one in VirtualDubMod it is using.

Check your task bar while your movie is being encoded, get the focus on the VirtualDubMod window and select "Show Status Window" from the menu. That should bring up the status bar of VirtualDubMod.

In the nandub instance that's popped up in the background, go to the top menus (its the right most one, i forget what its called... "View..." or something) and then select "Status Window"

That will tell you how long that pass will take, there will be two passes and then audio muxing.

It's a long time since I've been using AutoGKnot. If there are no such windows you can do nothing but wait and check the log area.

Whilst your waiting, why not download Gknot and thumb through the first post of this thread? imo its a much better application
