Ok, so I tried. It's my first attempt at using regular GK.
Wanted to make a 2cd rip with dual audio, 1 stream with original ac3 sound, and one with low-q 32kbps dir. comm.
Now what I ended up with was:
knight_Movie.avi (which is only the video, without sound) that's actually 1,4gb.
Then the knight.avi had the audio added and was suddenly 1.8gb.
Thus it was splitt into 3 discs. Two at 700mb and one at 459mb.
What did I do wrong? Why didn't it include the audio size to be calculated within 1.4gb?
Also, it didn't make the secondary audio stream 32kbps like I set it to be in the 'Bitrate' section. Do I also have to set it to 32kbps in the 'encoding control panel'? The doom9 guide said to set it to 'just mux'.

I got it down to 1.6gb, but it just wont keep below that 1.4gb. I'm gonna try once more with divx instead, but if that doesn't work, I give up.
Anyone else who's had some experience with dual stream rips who want to give a few pointers?

I finally got this right. Had to use AutoGK and rip it with a set size, then add the secondary stream later, and splitt manually. I'll start releasing CD1 later tonight. Just gotta split the file.

because you can't select different quality to different stream! I wanted to have 1 stream with original ac3 sound, and one with low-q 64kbps dir. comm.

you could have had the dir com at 128kbps MP3 ABR though couldn't you?.....wouldn't have thought that would hurt the video bitrate too much and would have been easier than doing the manual way...dunno....might have been worth a shot.....either way i'm looking forward to the release
[edit] dunno now....re-reading a tutorial i think it would have wanted to be AC3 also
but did you not try FairUse?...that you can chose what format and bitrate for either audio stream

Name.........: knight.avi
Filesize.....: 1,333 MB (or 1,365,606 KB or 1,398,380,544 bytes)
Runtime......: 02:26:17 (210,445 fr)
Video Codec..: XviD
Video Bitrate: 1078 kb/s
Audio Codec..: ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc
Audio Bitrate: 192 kb/s (96/ch, stereo) CBR
Frame Size...: 496x304 (1.63:1) [=31:19]
Is the resolution too low, or is it ok?

lol @ more experienced. You mean the guy that's made the most fuckups?

You should have upped that, and ditched AC3.... I think people include AC3 because its the easy option, not the right option. Your res is way too low for my liking and you really need to ditch AC3 (which is a waste of space, you don't really have a special ac3 stream anyway since its only 192kb/s).
IMO, do a compressability test @ 576xXXX w/ 128kb/s VBR MP3 + and see what it gets yous.
but you can't justify a 2cd rip with AC3 and directors commentry at that res i'd say. Somethings going wrong
As its a 2hr30min movie, you really do need 2cds. However, I would seriously attempt to do a 128kb/s (or higher) 2cd + with audio commentry at 96kb/s (gknot doesn't like <56kb/s mp3) if you really think its something people need).
Of course, you can try a compressability test with the AC3. Some people rag on the compressability test, but often it does give a decent guide I find. Anything above 80% is very nice.
BTW... you are checking "Calculate overhead" and selecting the right audio options in gknot right? Else there's a 'slight' oversize propblem (but not like you describe)
And your using the latest version? 0.32.0beta I believe it still is. Previous versions don't like Xvid 1.0 and you shouldn't use them with it.

The 'oh, so easy to understand' GK guide at doom9 said to uncheck 'Calculate...' when using xvid...

Ok. It's done again! Fairuse did the deal, although the cd's were a little bit undersized, it's still a very good result IMO.
